INC Condemns Abduction of 20 NYSC Members In Imo

The Igbo National Council (INC) Worldwide has issued a condemnation regarding the abduction of 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members in Umunoha, Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State, which occurred on Thursday, October 1, 2026.

The victims were en route from Ibadan, Oyo State, to various NYSC orientation camps in the South-East and South-South regions when the vehicles transporting them were ambushed by kidnappers.

The INC commended the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for the prompt deployment of operatives from the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services (DSS), and other security agencies to locate and rescue the victims.

In a statement released on Sunday, the INC specifically praised the deployment of additional police leadership and tactical teams to enhance the ongoing operation.

The INC urged the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to integrate credible, properly vetted, and coordinated Community Vigilantes into the rescue efforts.

These community members possess detailed knowledge of the local forests, bushes, communities, routes, and challenging terrains, the INC said.

The INC emphasized that community-based security personnel can provide invaluable local intelligence and assist conventional security forces in navigating areas that may be difficult to identify or access without local expertise.
