Agbakwuru Emerges NOMAC Chairman

Journalists operating under the aegis of Ngor Okpala Media Advisory Council (NOMAC) have elected Comrade Athan Agbakwuru as their Chairman.

The election, held penultimate Friday, was conducted by the Electoral Committee led by George Onyejiuwa.

Also elected were Comrades Austin Echereozor of National Newsbreak Newspaper and Henry Amadi, Editor of the Christian Light Newspaper, as Vice Chairman and Secretary, respectively.

Both individuals were elected unopposed, being the sole candidates for their positions.

Agbakwuru received six votes out of a total of 16 cast, while Sir Sunny Ndukwu, publisher of the Eastern Front newspaper, and Comrade Chinedu Opara, Editor of Nigeria Newspoint, each garnered five votes.

Following the election results, Athan Agbakwuru was immediately sworn in as the first elected chairman of the council, succeeding the interim administration led by Sir Sunny Ndukwu.

Comrade Athan Agbakwuru, who hails from Umuchoko, Ojiwe Village of the Umuohiagu Autonomous Community in Ngor Okpala LGA, Imo State, holds a Post Graduate Diploma from the International Institute of Journalism (IIJ), Abuja.

He also possesses a Bachelor of Science degree in Government (Political Science) and Public Administration from Imo State University (IMSU), Owerri.

Since 2011, he has served as a Correspondent for the Nigerian Pilot Newspaper in Imo State.

Agbakwuru has previously held positions as Chairman, Acting Chairman, two-term Secretary, and Assistant Secretary of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ).

He is also a member of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN).

In his post-election speech, Agbakwuru pledged to restore the group’s vision and reposition NOMAC for enhanced service to the people of Ngor Okpala.
