By Godwin Agia, Jalingo

The Northern Christians Religious Leaders Assembly (NOCRELA) has condemned the brutal killing of 102 Tiv Christians in Taraba State’s Takum Local Government Area.

The association disclosed that the attacks, allegedly carried out by Fulani militia, occurred between January 2 and February 3, 2026.

In a statement by the NOCRELA Chairman Rev. Dr. Micah Philip Dopah, noted that the violence has led to widespread destruction of homes, farms, and places of worship, displacing many families. Over 31 people were injured in the attacks, which have sparked outrage and concern among Christian leaders.

According to the statement, the Tiv community has expressed frustration with the government’s response, alleging that security agencies have not done enough to protect them.

“Within an interval of 33 days only from 2nd January 2026 to 3rd February 2026, the militia killed at least 102 people and injured over 31 as analyzed by the local authorities.

“The local authorities also complained that the government and security agencies have not done enough to protect their lives, houses, and churches. stating that the laxity of the government in defending their people and properties has encouraged the militia to perpetrate the satanic killings.

“Ten murderous attacks in 33 days is horrific. Where is the government? And where are the security agencies?
We interacted with the Tiv community and the affected NKST pastors extensively. They told us that these killings were perpetrated by Fulani militia, and are specifically targeted at the Tiv community and NKST churches.

“They also complained that the government and security agencies have not done enough to protect their lives, houses, and churches. The laxity of the government in defending them has encouraged the militia to perpetrate these satanic killings.

NOCRELA describe the incident as terrible and dreadful act of violent criminality against the Tiv people and NKST churches which he said is totally condemnable and unacceptable by christians across the word.

“We call on the security agencies and the government to fish out the perpetrators of these ungodly acts and show deliberate efforts in defending the Tiv people and NKST churches in Taraba State, particularly in Chanchanji district,” statement read.
