I Will Re-contest For Owerri Zone Senate Seat-Ex-Ondo First Lady

Former Ondo State First Lady, Dr. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, has expressed her intention to recontest for the Imo East Senatorial District seat in the forthcoming polls. During an interaction with newsmen in Owerri, Imo State, on October 9, she emphasized the need for robust and effective representation for the people of Owerri Zone. The widow of the late Governor Akeredolu lamented the perceived ineffective representation of the zone at the National Assembly, describing the current senator and members of the House of Representatives from the zone as ‘bench warmers’. Dr. Anyanwu-Akeredolu stated that the zone deserved more than tokenistic gestures, citing the need for meaningful empowerment, unlike what she described as ‘wheelbarrow and sewing machine’ empowerment. She commended Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduagha for providing genuine empowerment to her constituents in Kogi Central District. The former First Lady highlighted her efforts in providing motorcycles and stipends to operatives of a vigilance group in her hometown, Emeabiam Community, and attracting a police station to the area to curb insecurity. Despite the challenges she faced after her husband’s passing, Dr. Anyanwu-Akeredolu vowed to work tirelessly for the people of Owerri Zone. As the founder of the Breast Cancer Association of Nigeria and Bemore Empowered Girls Foundation, she emphasized her commitment to her pet projects and creating awareness about breast cancer. She revealed that she had to relocate the Bemore Empowered Girls Foundation’s yearly summer boot camp to Oyo State due to the Ondo State government’s perceived interference.
