Police Discontinue Parade Of Criminal Suspects

The Imo State Police Command has announced the cessation of parading individuals suspected of engaging in criminal activities.

This decision was communicated by the Command’s spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Henry Okoye, on Wednesday, December 3, following an inquiry from a correspondent.

DSP Okoye explained that the discontinuation of the parade of criminal suspects is in accordance with a court directive, which mandates that suspects be protected from such exposure unless they have been proven guilty by a competent court of law.

DSP Okoye further noted that the practice of parading criminal suspects can sometimes undermine the credibility of their reports.

He stated, “It is a court directive, in line with the rule of law, that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a competent court of law. This sometimes affects the believability of our reports. However, the rule of law is supreme.”
