Imo State Government Imposes N17m Tax on Chima Amadi

The Imo State Government has levied a personal income tax of over N17 million on Dr. Chima Matthew Amadi, a prospective candidate for the 2027 governorship election in the state.

The government, through its agency, the Imo State Internal Revenue Service (IIRS), directed Dr. Amadi to settle the tax within seven days into its Treasury Single Account (TSA).

In a letter dated September 4, 2025, IIRS Chairman Justice R. Okoye revealed that the tax includes penalties and interest, covering the period from 2019 to 2024.

It is noteworthy that Dr. Amadi has consistently advocated for transparency and accountability in the management of public funds, particularly those allocated to local government councils in the state.

He urged citizens to demand transparency, questioning why councils remain in a state of infrastructural decay despite receiving substantial allocations from the Federation account on a monthly basis.
