Police to Hold South East Security Summit on October 30

The Nigerian Police Force has approved a security summit to address the rising insecurity in the South East geo-political zone.
This was disclosed by Zone 9 Police Public Relation Officer, Superintendent Ihieanaetu Eberechukwu Deraa on Tuesday, 16th September 2025, during a courtesy visit to Eze Imo, HRM Eze Dr. E.C Okeke, who is also the Chairman, South East Council of Traditional Rulers.
According to Superintendent Deraa, the summit, scheduled for 30th October 2025 at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia, Abia State, aims to sensitize traditional rulers, town union presidents, and stakeholders on security matters.
The police, in partnership with the Nigerian Institute of Criminology and Penology, will also present merit awards to deserving individuals from Abia, Ebonyi, and Imo States during the summit.
Superintendent Deraa emphasized the crucial role of traditional rulers as Chief Security Officers of their respective autonomous communities, hence the visit to the leader of South East traditional rulers.
The team included the South East security summit coordinator and publisher of Eastern News Newspaper, Chief Vitalis Diala, the Registrar, Institute of Criminology and Penology Imo State Chapter, Chief Richard Okenna Njoku, and Dr. Mathew Godson.
