DPP Seeks Transfer Of Case Of Defilement Of Minor
The Department of Public Prosecutions, Ministry Justice, Imo State, has waded into the alleged defilement of a four-year old child, Chibutonwa Emmanuel, by the Proprietor of Graceland Model School, Ofeke-Osina in Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State, Nwabueze Joseph.
Nwabueze had been arraigned in a magistrate court in Ideato.
A charge filed by the Commissioner of Police against the suspect at the Ideato South Magistrate Court reads: “That you Nwabueze Joseph on the 29th of April 2026 at Osina in Ideato North Magisterial District did attempt to defile one Miss Chibutonwa Emmanuel age 4 years.
“You thereby committed an act contrary to law and punishable under Section 218 of the Criminal Code Cap C38 Laws of the Federation 2004, as applicable in Imo State.”
At the resumed hearing of the matter on Friday, a representative of the DPP, Barr. Chiamaka Ezeonye, argued that the magistrate court has no jurisdiction to entertain the matter and sought to take over the matter.
After long arguments, the court, presided over by His Worship, Anthony Ezediaro, adjourned the matter to June 26, 2026.
