The Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, is scheduled to deliver the 38th Convocation Lecture at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, on Thursday, June 4, 2026.

The event will take place at the Prof. Celestine O. E. Onwuliri Conference Centre within the University and is expected to attract distinguished political figures, academics, industry leaders, and members of the FUTO community.

Governor Uzodimma, who also holds the position of Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, will address the topic, “Nigerian Universities of Technology Must Lead in the Fourth Industrial Revolution or Jeopardise the Nation’s Future.”

In a statement released in Owerri, the Imo State Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy, Hon. Declan Emelumba, said the Governor’s selection of this topic aligns with a broader strategy aimed at enhancing Nigeria’s pursuit of technological advancements.

He further remarked that the Governor, who has delivered numerous lectures at universities across Nigeria, seeks to redirect higher education institutions towards adopting contemporary teaching and research methodologies.

Governor Uzodimma, an alumnus of FUTO and recipient of an honorary doctorate from the institution, is leveraging this lecture to motivate the university to strive for excellence in the fields of science and technology.
