Sweet Breeze, Founders 15, Others To Honour Pa Akalonu With Musical Concert
On August 19, 2026, a musical concert will be held in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, to commemorate the late Chief Pal Akalonu, evoking cherished memories of the musical achievements of the 1970s.
Chief Alan B. Onyemaechi, Chairman of the Night of Tributes and Musical Concert for the late Chief Akalonu, made this announcement on Tuesday during a press briefing in Owerri.
Chief Onyemaechi reflected on the lasting contributions of Chief Akalonu to music, entertainment, and television, emphasizing that he deserves a fitting farewell.
Chief Akalonu, a musician, producer, and former General Manager of NTA Aba, passed away at the age of 91.
According to Chief Onyemaechi, Sweet Breeze, Founders 15, Actions, Apostles, Wingers, and Peacocks International Band have confirmed their participation in the concert.
He noted that additional musicians who attribute their success to the late Chief Akalonu will express their intent to participate once they are informed about the event.
The Night of Tributes and Musical Concert will take place at the Imo State Arts Council, located on Mbari Street in Owerri.
“A hero has fallen. We aim to provide a deserving farewell. The concert will feature artists from the 1970s. We are collaborating with his family and intend to reach out to his colleagues, including Nollywood actor Pete Edochie,” stated Chief Onyemaechi.
Present at the briefing were Mr. Freedom Ekweuba, Secretary; Mr. Emma Okere Okpala, Publicity Secretary; Paul Chukwu and Olaedo Dallas.
The funeral ceremony for late Chief Pal Akalonu is scheduled for August 21, 2026 at his hometown, Emii in Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State.
