Police Refute Report Of Kidnap Of 14 Passengers In Imo
The Imo State Police Command has refuted reports of the alleged kidnapping of 14 passengers on Monday, December 1, 2025, along the Ngor/Okpala section of the Owerri-Aba Expressway.
According to a statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Henry Okoye, the police clarified that the video purporting the abduction of 14 passengers is related to an earlier incident that took place earlier in the year.
DSP Okoye stated that the video is being recirculated online with the intent to cause unnecessary alarm.
He further noted that efforts were made at that time to secure the release of the kidnapped individuals.
DSP Okoye stated, “The Imo State Police Command is issuing this statement in response to a misleading viral video circulating on social media, which falsely claims that 14 passengers were kidnapped at Ngor Okpala while traveling from Owerri to Aba on December 1, 2025. Investigations reveal that the video originated from an incident that occurred earlier this year and has been recirculated online to create unnecessary panic. Concerted efforts were put in place at the time to ensure the safe release of the victims.”
Additionally, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, has urged the public to disregard the misleading video and has cautioned against sharing unverified information that could generate fear and tension.
CP Danjuma stated that he has deployed adequate security measures along the route, in collaboration with other security agencies and local security outfits, to ensure the safety of commuters, particularly during the festive season.
He advised residents to remain calm, stay vigilant, and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency contact line at 0803 477 3600.
