Police Refute Claim Of Fire Incident At Student Hostel In Imo

The Imo State Police Command has categorically rejected reports alleging that a fire incident occurred at a student hostel in Nekede, Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Henry Okoye, the command’s spokesperson, stated that the claims disseminated by a Facebook user on Sunday, July 5, are unfounded and constitute a hoax.

Okoye emphasized that the assertion, which suggested that Fulani herdsmen ignited the fire, trapping 80 students, is misleading and has the potential to incite unnecessary panic among the local populace.

The command urges the public to disregard such reports and to refrain from disseminating unverified information that could induce fear, panic, or public disorder.

Furthermore, Okoye advised citizens to consistently verify the authenticity of information through credible and official sources prior to sharing it on social media or other platforms.
