Imo NUJ Dissociates From AIBJ
The Imo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has formally disassociated itself from the group operating under the name of the Association of Imo State-Based Journalists (AIBJ), clarifying that it is neither an affiliate nor recognized by the union.
This disclaimer was communicated in a statement issued by Comrade Ifeanyi Nwanguma, the Chairman of the state council.
The council identified its recognized affiliates, which include the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), the Nigeria Guild of Editors (NGE), and the Correspondents’ Chapel.
Comrade Nwanguma emphasized that the union will not assume responsibility for any transactions, representations, financial dealings, losses, or other consequences arising from interactions with the aforementioned AIBJ.
He instructed all registered and practicing members of the union to distance themselves from the activities of this group.
Furthermore, he warned that appropriate sanctions will be imposed on any member who disregards this directive.
The union also urged the public to exercise caution and to ignore any claims made by the AIBJ or its representatives that suggest recognition or affiliation with the NUJ.
