Police Kill Two Kidnap Suspects In Imo
Law enforcement officers from the Agwa Divisional Police, in the Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State, engaged and subsequently killed two individuals suspected of kidnapping during a shootout on Tuesday, December 2, 2025.
The spokesperson for the police in the state, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Henry Okoye,disclosed this in a statement released on Wednesday, December 3, 2025.
DSP Okoye additionally revealed that the police recovered from the suspects two pump-action rifles, seven live cartridges, two Android phones, and the remains of an unidentified female victim.
The operation, under the leadership of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), occurred along the Obudi-Mgbala Road.
Similarly, on the same day, officers from the Nekede Division, led by their DPO, conducted a raid in the Umuezeruokam forest in the Owerri West Local Government Area of the state and apprehended twelve suspects involved in kidnapping activities.
DSP Okoye stated that the officers also seized twelve phones, two daggers, a cutlass, assorted hard drugs, a saw blade, and a bundle of arrows.
He further informed that the case has been transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for continued investigation.
The statement reads: “On December 2, 2025, at approximately 20:22 hours, officers from the Agwa Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Agwa, while on patrol along Obudi–Mgbala Road, engaged a group of kidnappers utilizing a white Keke bus, registered as EHM 542 XL.
“Two of the suspects were neutralized, while others escaped with injuries. Items recovered include two pump-action rifles, seven live cartridges, two Android phones, and the body of an unidentified female victim. The recovered items and bodies have been deposited at the mortuary as the investigation continues.
“In another development, on the same date at approximately 18:00 hours, officers from the Nekede Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Nekede Division, acting on credible intelligence, raided Umuezeruokam Forest connecting to Avu Forest.
“The operation resulted in the arrest of twelve suspects and the recovery of twelve phones, two daggers, a cutlass, assorted hard drugs, a saw blade, and a bundle of arrows. The case has been transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for further investigation.
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, has assured residents of ongoing efforts to eradicate criminal elements and ensure public safety.
