Woman Lands In Police Net For Allegedly Burning Maid’s Private Parts
A woman in Imo State has been apprehended by the police for allegedly inflicting severe injuries on her six-year-old maid’s private part.
The 38-year-old businesswoman, identified as Juliet Igwe, reportedly used a candle to cause harm to the young girl, Onyinyechi.
In addition to these injuries, the businesswoman allegedly used hot water to scald the child’s hands and body.
During a parade of the suspect at the command headquarters in Owerri, the state capital, on Wednesday, the police spokesperson, Henry Okoye, stated that the arrest was made following intelligence received by the Ideato North Police Divisional headquarters.
Okoye praised activist journalist Chidiebube Okeoma, who is the founder of the Stand For Humanity Foundation, a human rights organization, for his contributions.
Okoye condemned the woman’s actions as reprehensible and unacceptable, announcing that she would face legal proceedings upon the completion of the investigation.
The state commissioner of police, Aboki Danjuma, has expressed his displeasure with the act and has instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigations Department to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure the suspect is brought to court.
Okoye also commended Okeoma and his foundation for taking responsibility for the minor’s medical and welfare needs.
When questioned, the suspect admitted to causing the injuries but claimed ignorance of the severity of using candle wax and hot water. She accused the child of stealing meat from her pot, stating that her actions were intended to prevent future incidents.
Okeoma revealed that his foundation informed the authorities about the child abuse incident in Uruala Community, Ideato North LGA.
He stated that his organization not only rescued the child and handed her over to the police but also assisted in the suspect’s arrest.
The activist journalist emphasized that such acts of cruelty are intolerable in a civilized society.
His organization has ensured the child’s medical care at the Imo State University Medical Centre in Owerri, with thanks extended to Dr. Uche Ewelike, Executive Secretary of the Imo State Health Insurance Agency, for approving free medical care due to the urgency of the child’s condition.
Okeoma expressed gratitude to the state commissioner of police for swiftly transferring the case to the state CID in Owerri and acknowledged all members and partners, both within and outside Nigeria, for their concern and support in seeking justice for the minor.
