My Parents Gave Me Wings To Fly, My Husband Nurtured Those Wings-Akeredolu
Dr. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, the former First Lady of Ondo State, has expressed gratitude for the significant impact her parents had on her life prior to marriage.
She also extended appreciation to her husband, who played a vital role in nurturing and empowering her to contribute to the betterment of humanity.
The former First Lady made these remarks during a courtesy visit to traditional rulers in the Owerri Zone, which took place on Saturday, May 2, at Umuneke, Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State.
She stated: “My parents, through education, provided me with the wings to fly even before marriage, while my late husband, Aketi, nurtured and strengthened those wings, allowing me to soar to greater heights. In my view, marriage does not erase one’s roots; rather, it builds upon the foundation established from one’s origin.”
Dr. Anyanwu-Akeredolu, who is contesting for the senatorial seat of Owerri Zone in the Senate under the Labour Party banner, explained that her visit was a gesture of respect and gratitude to the traditional institution for conferring upon her the esteemed title of Ada Owere 1.
She described the title as a profound call to responsibility, service, and ongoing dedication to the advancement of the zone.
She noted that the visit, held at the palace of His Royal Highness Eze Fred Nwachukwu, Acting Chairman Council of Ndi-Eze Eze, Owerri Zone, had been delayed due to her husband’s prolonged illness, subsequent passing, and the one-year mourning period mandated by Igbo tradition.
The event was attended by twenty-five traditional rulers who offered their prayers, goodwill, and expressed support for the aspirant’s continued service and initiatives.
The traditional ruler of her ancestral Emeabiam Community, His Royal Highness Eze Eunan Eke (Okpo I of Umuokpo, Emeabiam Autonomous Community), was present at the occasion.
