Igbo Youths Endorse Protest Rally For Kanu’s Release

The Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) has formally expressed support for a protest rally aimed at demanding the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPoB), from detention.
In an official statement, signed by its National President, Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, the Council endorsed the rally proposed by activist Omoyele Sowore, which is anticipated to be the inaugural pan-Nigerian protest rally in the nation.
The rally is scheduled to take place on October 20, 2025.
Igboayaka characterized Kanu’s ongoing detention as a political conspiracy, emphasizing that the complexities surrounding his trial are strategically designed to impede justice.
The Council’s leader asserted that Nigeria lacks the legal jurisdiction to initiate or finalize Kanu’s trial in compliance with both Nigerian and international laws.
He further explained that the circumstances of Kanu’s abduction in Kenya and subsequent rendition to Nigeria render it impossible for Nigerian authorities to conclude his case domestically.
He maintained that Nigeria would be branded a terrorist state should it proceed with Kanu’s trial within its borders.
Regarding the protest rally, Igboayaka noted that it might have been perceived as tribalistic had it been initiated by an Igbo individual.
He urged Ndigbo and conscientious citizens to support the rally.
