Ejiogu Dumps APC, Rejoins PDP
Business magnate Chief Mike Duru Ejiogu has formally rejoined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), referring to his return as a homecoming to his origins.
Chief Ejiogu was officially welcomed by the PDP executive during a ceremony conducted at his residence in Añara Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State on Thursday.
The industrialist was a founding member of the PDP in 1998 and served as a significant financier until his departure to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Upon receiving his membership card, Chief Ejiogu expressed his contentment in rejoining the PDP, which he regards as his home and roots.
He pledged to contribute to the party’s success across all levels, attributing his decision to return to the influence of the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu, colloquially known as Samdaddy.
“I am delighted to return to where it all began in 1998. As a founding member of the PDP in Imo State, we established the party’s strength in Isiala Mbano and the Okigwe Zone. This is my home and my roots,” Ejiogu reminisced about his early days with the party.
“I recently resigned from the APC to return home to strengthen and fortify it. Let us maintain the peace, unity, and cohesion currently prevailing within the party. My commitment is to ensure the PDP’s victory at all levels, and I pledge my unwavering dedication to this party, as it is our own. I feel at home.”
The PDP State Vice Chairman for the Okigwe Senatorial Zone, Chief Chuks Ajaelu, welcomed Chief Ejiogu, expressing pleasure at this development. Ajaelu remarked that his defection signifies renewed energy and acceptance within the party following a period of internal challenges.
State Publicity Secretary Lancelot Obiaku, also from Isiala Mbano LGA, praised Ejiogu’s decision, describing it as insightful and strategic. He added that the PDP in the state is thrilled to welcome him back, given his esteemed credentials, and characterized the party as the mother of all political parties in the nation.
Ejiogu’s entry into the PDP further bolsters an ongoing wave of defections into the party in Imo State. Recently, former Deputy Governor Prince Eze Madumere announced his departure from the APC and subsequent defection to the PDP, among others.
Several additional high-profile individuals are anticipated to join the PDP in the coming days and weeks as the opposition party fortifies its position ahead of the 2027 elections. These defectors are already drawing thousands of Imo State residents to the party’s platform.
