Heartland FC Humbles Crown FC 1-0

By Chris ABIAZIEM

On Saturday, Heartland FC of Owerri secured a 1-0 victory over the visiting Crown FC of Ogbomoso in their final home game of the 2025/2026 Nigerian National League (NNL) season.

Despite this triumph, the team was unable to secure promotion to the elite Nigeria Professional Football League for the following season.

The match commenced with both teams displaying determination and glimpses of excellence.

However, their initial vigor quickly dissipated as ineffective shooting and poor marksmanship failed to yield positive results.

The first half concluded in a goalless draw, leaving both players and spectators dissatisfied.

Upon resuming play, the players struggled to deliver a standout performance. The only moment of relief for the spectators occurred in the 82nd minute when Jonathan Osondu scored the match’s sole goal.

In a post-match chat with sports journalists, Technical Manager Emmanuel Amuneke acknowledged that Heartland FC’s efforts were insufficient to achieve promotion.

He remarked, “Our initial phase contributed to our failure, as we made numerous mistakes and lacked the necessary moves and displays to achieve the desired positive outcomes. The second phase showed improvement, with necessary changes implemented, including the recruitment of new players. It is indeed a challenging journey, and we must now return to the drawing board to find solutions.”
