Akirika Okoro emphasized the need for the state government, Ministry of Health, and security agencies to collaborate to address this life-threatening matter.
‘Investigating private hospitals aligns with the need for government to further protect patients from exploitation and ensure adherence to medical standards,’ he said.
He added; “Such investigations should hold offending hospitals accountable, leading to optimal reforms like strengthening oversight, enforcing ethical codes, ensuring transparency in billing, and preventing medical misconduct”.
Akirika Okoro stressed that monitoring private healthcare providers is crucial to prevent them from undermining government achievements through unethical practices, which could lead to significant hardships for patients if left unchecked.
He emphasized that patients’ rights must be respected, and the pursuit of profit should not supersede the responsibility to prioritize patients’ well-being.
