Bandits Assault Advance Team Of Abia Gov Near Imo Airport

Gunmen on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, launched an attack on the advance team of Governor Alex Otti of Abia State.

The incident took place between the Umuowa and Ihitte sections of the Owerri-Aba Expressway before the airport junction.

A statement released by Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Otti, revealed that the advance team, consisting of three members, was en route to the Sam Mbakwe Cargo International Airport in Owerri when the attack occurred.

Fortunately, there were no casualties as a result of the attack.

Ukoha refuted reports suggesting that Governor Otti’s convoy was involved in the incident.

The statement reads: “In the early hours of today, December 2nd, an advance team of three members from the Office of the Executive Governor of Abia State, His Excellency Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, on duty to Sam Mbakwe Airport, Imo State, was attacked by unidentified gunmen. The incident occurred between Umuowa and Ihite junction, shortly before the Sam Mbakwe Airport Junction in Imo State.

“The general public is hereby informed that the convoy of Governor Otti was not involved in this attack, and no lives were lost during the unfortunate incident.

It is worth recalling that in May of this year, one individual was reportedly killed and 22 passengers were abducted at the same location and taken into the forest.

The public was not informed about the resolution of the case after the state police command claimed it was managing the situation effectively.
