APC Quakes As APP Woos Imo Lawmakers
The political landscape in Imo State is undergoing rapid transformations, with significant realignments adding to the intensity of the prevailing atmosphere.
The Action Peoples Party (APP), recently unveiled by Dr. Chima Amadi, a prominent governorship aspirant, has stirred the state’s political scene with an ambitious recruitment campaign aimed at current lawmakers in both the National Assembly and the Imo State House of Assembly.
Reliable sources within Amadi’s faction indicate that numerous lawmakers, irrespective of party affiliation, are currently engaged in discussions with APP’s leadership.
They are drawn by the prospect of a “breath of fresh air” and the opportunity to secure a right of refusal for those who choose to join early and align with the party’s objectives.
Chief Emma Bukar, a distinguished official of the APP and a senior member of The Mazi Organization (TMO), which is spearheading Amadi’s grassroots initiative, stated, “APP embodies a new political conscience for Imo. It is a haven for leaders who aspire to serve without being constrained by influential figures or clandestine agreements.”
This development has incited concern within the ruling APC and prompted discreet consultations within Governor Hope Uzodimma’s circle, amid escalating apprehensions that several of his supporters, disillusioned by the growing uncertainty regarding their political future, internal discord, and waning influence, may defect to Amadi’s faction.
Investigations reveal that numerous lawmakers express dissatisfaction with alleged insufficient funding, lack of legislative involvement, monotony, limited access to the governor, and unnecessary constraints that render lawmakers nearly ineffective.
Political analysts regard the party’s strategy as a masterstroke, positioning it as the most rapidly emerging political entity in anticipation of 2027.
In the brief period since its introduction, the party has sparked a surge of enthusiasm across the Orlu, Owerri, and Okigwe regions, rallying youths, professionals, and legislators around the promise of credible leadership and governance driven by the populace.
During an address to journalists in Owerri, Chief Henry Onwukwe, Director General of The Mazi Organization, remarked, “What we are witnessing is not merely another party movement. This marks the commencement of a revolution founded on integrity, structure, and grassroots appeal.”
Continuing, the Owerri West-born political strategist disclosed, “The APP, as a vehicle for the liberation and transformation of our state, is a necessity at this critical juncture in our state’s history. We are obligated to expedite this endeavor for the future of our children.”
“In our leader, Dr. Chima Matthew Amadi, we possess an individual who is fearless, articulate, and prepared to lead this charge from the forefront,” he added, concluding, “The time is now to usher in the change we have long desired.”
As momentum continues to build, defections appear not only possible but imminent, setting the stage for an intense confrontation between Governor Uzodimma’s faction and Dr. Amadi’s widespread movement, a contest that could redefine the political future of Imo State.
