Call ENTRACO To Order, PDP Counsels Uzodimma
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of Imo State has expressed concern regarding the alleged takeover of the State’s Environmental Transformation Commission (ENTRACO) by individuals it describes as terrorists.
The party therefore urged Governor Hope Uzodimma to address this issue promptly by ensuring that these individuals are called to order.
The PDP emphasizes that terrorism is not confined to armed groups in remote areas but can also manifest in urban settings.
They argue that individuals wearing official uniforms, driving government-branded vehicles, and instilling fear among citizens can also be considered terrorists.
The party cited a recent incident on Toronto/MCC Road, captured by a CCTV camera, as an example of such urban terror, where individuals armed with dangerous weapons attacked motorists and traders.
The PDP contends that this behavior is not enforcement but violence, and any group causing fear and harm to citizens fits the definition of a terrorist organization.
The party suspects that these individuals operate under government protection.
In a statement signed by Lancelot Obiaku, the Publicity Secretary, the PDP condemned these actions, highlighting that ENTRACO was established in 2008 to maintain a clean, green, and healthy environment, focusing on sanitation, cleaning, and beautification efforts.
It states that during Governor Ikedi Ohakim’s administration, ENTRACO fulfilled its mandate effectively, contributing to a clean city and peaceful community relations.
However, the PDP claims that since the appointment of Mr. Anyaehie as Chairman, ENTRACO has deviated from its original purpose, becoming a source of distress for motorists, traders, and small business owners.
The party questions the rationale behind ENTRACO’s involvement in traffic enforcement when the Imo State Traffic Management Agency (ISTMA) is already empowered to handle such matters.
The PDP is further concerned that the State Governor has authorized one of his aides to operate alongside individuals resembling common criminals, wielding weapons under the guise of “monitoring and evaluation.”
