Amadi Criticizes Secrecy Trailing Govt Business In Imo

By GELE AGBAI

Dr. Chima Matthew Amadi, the Senatorial candidate for Imo East District under the Action Peoples Party (APP), has expressed criticism regarding the lack of transparency in the conduct of government affairs in Imo State over the past six years.

He noted that citizens are not informed about contract bidding processes, nor have any companies announced contract awards through bidding.

During a press briefing in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, on Saturday, June 6, Dr. Amadi, who is also the APP’s preferred governorship candidate in the state, stated that the administration of Senator Hope Uzodimma should have adhered to due process in awarding 70 percent of contracts, reserving the remaining 30 percent for the executive, particularly for multi-billion naira contracts.

This approach, he suggested, would stimulate economic growth as local companies could secure contracts through established procedures.

Dr. Amadi explained his decision not to join the ruling party and engage in sycophancy to gain government favor, asserting that such actions would contribute to the state’s further regression.

He remarked that Imo State has fallen behind states it once surpassed, citing Abia State under Governor Alex Otti as an example of a state that has progressed significantly, becoming attractive to property developers.

While Dr. Amadi acknowledged Governor Uzodimma’s efforts in providing quality infrastructure, particularly roads, he contended that former Governor Rochas Okorocha might have been more favourably remembered had he executed projects with higher quality infrastructure.

He advised Governor Uzodimma to prioritize rural roads over federal roads before the rainy season begins, emphasizing that further achievements are possible if the governor is willing.

Dr. Amadi described his pursuit of the Senatorial seat as a strategic move to demonstrate his commitment to development and to gain insight into public service.

He stated that if elected, he would initiate pilot smart school projects in four Local Government Areas within his zone, ensuring their inclusion in the national budget while commencing the projects before budgetary allocations are released.

As governor of Imo State, Dr. Amadi plans to run a streamlined administration with 15 commissioners, taking on the role of Commissioner for Education himself, and prioritizing education over other sectors.

Regarding the defection of his associate, Hon. Blyden Amajirionwu, and the departure of Hon. Uche Ogbuagu and Hon. Ugonna Ozurigbo, Dr. Amadi explained that Hon. Amajirionwu left due to differing visions for The Mazi Organization (TMO), while Ogbuagu and Ozurigbo chose to return to their former political affiliations.
