Defamation: Nonsonkwa Announces Intention To Appeal Verdict Imposing N40m Penalty
Renowned broadcaster Chinonso Uba, known by the moniker Nonsonkwa, has expressed his intention to challenge the judgment requiring him to pay N40 million in damages for defaming the former Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State, Honorable MacDonald Ebere.
In a video statement released on Wednesday, Nonsonkwa revealed that he has instructed his legal counsel to file an appeal against the decision.
He questioned the Imo State High Court’s decision not to permit his witness to testify during the proceedings.
The broadcaster suggested that the case was engineered by the APC administration within the state as a means to target him.
Nonsonkwa conveyed his confidence in the appellate courts, which are presided over by judges not affiliated with Imo State, to review the matter impartially and overturn the lower court’s ruling.
He advised the agents of the state government who are celebrating the verdict to exercise restraint.
