Amadi Alleges Plot To Manipulate Imo East Senatorial Election
.Accuses Imo Govt, APC Of Fortifying Vigilante Groups With Cultists
The Campaign Organization of Dr. Chima Matthew Amadi, the Action Peoples Party (APP) candidate, has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its administration in Imo State have devised plans to manipulate the upcoming Senatorial election scheduled for January 16, 2027, in the Imo East Zone.
The Campaign Organization contends that the ruling party and its government are actively recruiting cultists and thugs into community-based vigilante organizations, intending to deploy them to spread fear and secure an electoral advantage.
These allegations were presented during a news conference held on Tuesday in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, by Dr Amadi’s Chief Press Secretary, Cajetan Duke.
Duke disclosed of series of clandestine meetings involving senior APC stakeholders with cult groups with discussions centring on their recruitment into government-backed community vigilante structures.
According to Duke, these meetings would have been dismissed but their secrecy and frequency as well as apparent coordination make them difficult to ignore.
He said what makes the meetings more troubling is that these malevolent individuals were being mobilized to intimidate, harass and suppress opposition supporters, particularly members of the APP and supporters of his principal, Dr Chima Matthew Amadi.
Duke claimed that the cultists who are being recruited into community vigilante groups have been mandated to unleash coordinated attacks on Dr Amadi before and during the general polls.
He reminded those behind this planned dastardly act that the forthcoming polls are a democratic exercise and not a military expedition, stressing that weapons of coercion should not be deployed against citizens simply because they have chosen to support a different party and candidate.
Duke revealed that the legal department of the campaign organization would soon lodge a formal report to alert security agencies on the need to commence investigation into the allegations.
In the meantime, he said the campaign organization will deploy all lawful measures to resist the Intimidation and harassment of the electorate.
He however charged the electorate to remain peaceful, vigilant and refuse every invitation to violence.
