Police Nab Couple For Allegedly Trafficking In Narcotics
The Imo State Police Command has apprehended a couple allegedly involved in narcotics trafficking.
The Command reported that operatives from its Surveillance Unit arrested Mr. Collins Iwunze and Mrs. Onyinyechi Iwunze on Friday, March 28, at Umunjoku Obiokwu Amakohia-Ubi in the Owerri West Local Government Area of the state.
The spokesperson for the command, Henry Okoye, disclosed in a statement that the couple was apprehended at their residence, where they allegedly engaged in the commercial trafficking of narcotics.
Okoye further stated that a bag containing prohibited illicit substances was recovered from them.
His statement reads: “In a sustained effort to rid Imo State of criminal elements and uphold public safety, operatives of the Imo State Police Command’s Surveillance Unit, acting on credible intelligence, arrested two suspects involved in the sale of prohibited hard drugs.
“The operation was conducted on March 27, 2026, at approximately 0630 hours at Umunjoku Obiokwu Amakohia-Ubi in Owerri West LGA.
“The suspects, Collins Iwunze (aged 51) and his wife, Onyinyechi Iwunze (aged 43), were apprehended at their residence, where they allegedly dealt in hard drugs in commercial quantities. A bag containing assorted illicit substances was recovered during the operation.
“The suspects are currently in custody, and investigations are ongoing to facilitate their prosecution.”
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police for the Imo State Command, CP Audu Garba Bosso, has commended the operatives and reiterated the Command’s commitment to combating drug-related crimes.
