Madumere, Ex-Imo Deputy Governor Resigns From APC
Prince Ezeakonobi Madumere, the former Deputy Governor of Imo State, has officially resigned from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
His departure was communicated in a personally signed letter dated March 17, 2027, which was released to the press in Owerri on Thursday, March 26, 2026.
Prince Madumere, who is a prospective candidate for the 2027 governorship election, has caused significant unrest within the political party due to his substantial influence and support base.
The letter, addressed to the Ward Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ezinihitte Mbieri, Mbaitoli Local Government Area, Imo State, is titled “Notification of Resignation from All Progressives Congress, APC.”
In the letter, Madumere states, “I am writing to formally notify you of my decision to resign my membership from the All Progressives Congress, APC, effective immediately.”
He continues, “This decision, though challenging, has become necessary after deep personal reflection on my political journey with the party. I sincerely feel it is time for me to explore new paths.”
“It is my utmost desire and expectation that we all continue to maintain the cordial relationship we have built over the years in our collective desire to build a better Nigeria,” he expressed.
Political analysts and observers in the state are currently speculating on which opposition political party Madumere is likely to join.
For now, the answer remains uncertain, but the former Deputy Governor of Imo State is expected to play a prominent role in the upcoming political landscape.
Prince Ezeakonobi Madumere initially held the position of Chief of Staff at the Imo Government House from 2011 to 2013.
Subsequently, he was elevated to the role of Deputy Governor following the impeachment of Sir Jude Agbaso, who had served as the deputy to Owelle Rochas Okorocha.
Governor Okorocha made significant efforts to influence the Imo State House of Assembly to impeach Prince Madumere.
However, the court ultimately nullified the impeachment, thereby reinstating him prior to the conclusion of Okorocha’s second term in office.
