Police Detain Officer, Two Civil Guards For Alleged Extortion

A police traffic warden and two civil guards have been detained at the Imo State Police Command on allegations of extorting a motorist.

The command’s spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Henry Okoye, made this announcement in a statement released on Friday.

The police officer involved has been identified as Inspector Chinwe Ejiogu, who is assigned to the Shell Camp Divisional Police Headquarters. The two Civil Guards Corps personnel are Kelechi Nzediagwu and Onyedikachi Chibuike.

Reports indicate that the trio was captured in a circulating video, in which they were seen harassing and extorting a motorist who was allegedly driving without a driver’s license on October 8, 2026.

DSP Okoye further stated that the state Commissioner of Police (CP) Audu Garba Bosso has instructed the command’s Complaint Response Unit (CRU) to conduct an investigation into the incident.

He has also urged the motorist to come forward with relevant information to assist in the investigation, assuring that appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken following the conclusion of the inquiry.

The CP emphasized that traffic violations should not lead to extortion, harassment, or abuse of office.
