Obazu Village Presidents Back Suspension Of Monarch, Agunwah

Presidents of villages within the Obazu Autonomous Community in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State have expressed their support for the town union’s appeal to the state government to suspend the traditional ruler of their community, His Royal Highness Eze Francis Elendu Agunwah, from his position.

The demand was put forth by the town union, led by President General, Town Planner Iheanyi Abaekwume, who cited Eze Agunwah’s alleged incapacitation as the basis for this request.

The village presidents asserted that the purported incapacitation of their monarch has provided an opportunity for certain discontented individuals to instigate unrest within the community.

The village presidents formally expressed their endorsement in a statement dated February 2, 2026, which was subsequently disseminated to National Newsbreak.

The signatories of the statement include Mr. Obinna Abaekwume from Umueze Village, Sir Kelechi Madujibeya from Umuchimanwiri Village, Mr. Emeka Ibeawuchi from Umuchoke Village, Mr. Nnanyereugo Ahamefula from Obilubi Village, Rev. Maduakolam Ejiogu from Umunkwo Village, Dr. Henry Ozuzu from Amaogwugwu Village, and Mr. Kingsley Emeka Arimanwa from Umuneke Village.

They emphasized their unwillingness to remain passive while the peace of the community is compromised.

In their view, suspending the monarch is the most effective measure to prevent further misuse of royal authority.

They called upon all conscientious citizens and residents to endorse the suspension in the pursuit of enduring peace and stability within the community.
