Police Arrest Armed Robbery Suspect, Recover Firearms
Officers of the Orji Division, in collaboration with the Anti-Narcotics Unit of the Imo State Police Command, successfully apprehended a suspect involved in armed robbery on Thursday, April 2, and seized several incriminating items.
This development was announced by the command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye, in a statement issued on Saturday.
According to Mr. Okoye, on April 2, 2026, at approximately 0600 hours, following credible intelligence, a patrol team led by the Divisional Police Officer of Orji Division arrested an individual named Chigaemezu Aguguom, a resident of Umuneke, Isiala Mbano LGA. The arrest took place near the Bishop’s Court area adjacent to Pacific Hotel, Owerri, where the suspect was found with gunshot injuries sustained during an unsuccessful criminal operation.
During the interrogation process, the suspect admitted to being part of a five-member armed robbery gang.
He provided valuable information that is currently assisting in the efforts to apprehend other members of the syndicate who remain at large.
Mr. Okoye further revealed that the items recovered from the suspect included two locally manufactured firearms with five live cartridges, four smartphones, a wristwatch, and other valuables suspected to have been stolen from victims.
The spokesperson for the command also stated that the suspect and the recovered items have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Owerri for thorough investigation and potential prosecution.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Garba Bosso, has assured the residents of Imo of enhanced security measures during the Easter period. He has also urged the public to support the Command by reporting any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the emergency contact number.
