Ex-Imo CJ’s Son, Onumajulu Resigns From PDP
Honorable Onyekachi Leonard Onumajulu, the son of the former Chief Judge of Imo State, Justice Paul Onumajulu, has announced his resignation from the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Honorable Onumajulu communicated his decision to leave the party in a letter dated March 1, 2026, and addressed to the Chairman of the PDP Ubulu Ward, Oru West Local Government Area of Imo State.
The 2023 PDP House of Assembly candidate cited the current leadership’s failure to prioritize the interests of Nigerians as his reason for departing the party.
In his letter, he stated: “I, Onyekachi Leonard Onumajulu, hereby formally resign my membership from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect.
“This decision follows careful consideration based on my personal interests and my commitment to always prioritize Nigeria and Nigerians in my political endeavors, a principle seemingly not shared by the current PDP leadership.
“I sincerely appreciate the opportunities, support, and cooperation extended to me during my tenure with the party. I remain dedicated to serving the interests of the people and contributing positively to political development and democratic growth.”
The PDP is currently experiencing defections and internal divisions.
Presently, the party is divided into two factions, led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Taminu Turaki, respectively.
While the Appeal Court has recognized the Wike-led faction as the legitimate PDP, the Turaki faction has appealed to the Supreme Court to challenge the Appeal Court’s decision.
The Wike faction is widely perceived as collaborating with the ruling APC government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to undermine or dismantle the PDP.
