Police Apprehend Suspected Cultist, Recover Firearm In Imo


The Imo State Police Command has announced the apprehension of a member of the Vikings Confraternity, identified as Bright Chidi, from whom a firearm was recovered in Nekede, Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State.

This information was disclosed by the command’s spokesman, Henry Okoye, in a statement issued on Tuesday.

According to Mr. Okoye, officers from the command, in collaboration with operatives from the Imo Security Organization, successfully executed the arrest of Mr. Chidi.

He further explained that the arrest was a result of credible intelligence regarding suspicious activities observed along Old Nekede Road in the early hours of March 21, 2026.

Mr. Okoye elaborated, “Acting promptly on the intelligence received, the operatives mobilized to the location and apprehended Bright Chidi, a 26-year-old male. Upon conducting a search, they recovered a locally made single-barrel pistol and one live cartridge from him.”

The command’s spokesman also revealed that during preliminary questioning, the suspect admitted to being a member of the Vikings Confraternity, a cult group associated with violent criminal activities.

“The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation, and efforts are underway to apprehend additional members of the syndicate,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Garba Bosso, has directed a sustained, intelligence-driven crackdown on criminal elements throughout the state. He also urged residents to support the police and other security agencies by providing timely and credible information to enhance public safety.
