Agbaso Declares Interest In 2027 Imo Gov’ship Race
Chief Martin Agbaso, a distinguished political figure in Imo State, has formally expressed his intention to contest the governorship election scheduled for 2027 in the state.
Chief Agbaso, who is honored with the esteemed Ochoudo title, disclosed his aspirations in a statement dated June 21, 2026, which he personally signed.
He reflected on his previous endeavors to secure the governorship position in 2007, which did not culminate in the anticipated success.
In a statement titled “A Mandate Delayed, Not Denied,” Chief Agbaso revealed that the experiences from that period imparted valuable lessons.
He emphasized the importance of transforming disappointment into wisdom rather than bitterness.
He stated, “Some have described the events of 2007 as a mandate delayed. I choose to view them as part of God’s preparation. While circumstances may delay a journey, they cannot obstruct a destiny ordained by God.”
“Today, I possess greater experience, profound understanding, steadier judgment, and an unwavering commitment to serving Ndi Imo.”
Chief Agbaso further reflected on the teachings imparted by God through his journey, suggesting that certain assignments necessitate preparation before fulfillment, some dreams require patience before manifestation, and some mandates are delayed to arrive at the appointed time with enhanced clarity, deeper understanding, and stronger purpose.
He expressed no resentment toward anyone and no desire to revisit past grievances.
According to Chief Agbaso, after assessing the challenges confronting Imo State, he concluded that the state possesses all the requisite attributes for success but necessitates courageous and altruistic leadership to realize its potential.
Ochoudo is confident in his destiny to govern Imo State despite the delays encountered in his pursuit of leadership at Douglas House.
He reiterated, “While circumstances may delay a journey, they cannot obstruct a destiny ordained by God.”
“Today, I possess greater experience, profound understanding, steadier judgment, and an unwavering commitment to serving Ndi Imo.”
“Over the years, I have often contemplated the lessons imparted by God through this journey. Perhaps certain assignments necessitate preparation before fulfillment, some dreams require patience before manifestation.”
“And perhaps some mandates are delayed to arrive at the appointed time with enhanced clarity, deeper understanding, and stronger purpose.”
Chief Agbaso participated in the 2007 governorship election in Imo State; however, the electoral commission, led by Professor Maurice Iwu, who is a native of Imo State, annulled the election due to alleged irregularities.
He made another attempt in 2023 but was unable to secure the nomination from the Labour Party, under which he contested.
