Oparaeke Rejects Appointment Into Obazu Electoral Committee

The ongoing crisis surrounding the monarchy in the Obazu Community, in the Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State, has taken a new turn as several members of the 14-man Electoral Committee have resigned.

Among those who have declined their participation is Mr. Golden Oparaeke.

Mr. Oparaeke expressed his displeasure at being included in the committee without prior consultation, publicly stating his unwavering loyalty to Town Planner Iheanyi Abaekwume, the President-General of the Obazu Town Union.

Mr. Oparaeke declared, “I, Golden Oparaeke, hereby disassociate myself from this purported Electoral Committee.

“Please exclude me from it. I wish to reiterate that I am not, and will never be, part of a committee not established by TPL Chief Iheanyi Abaekwume.

“My loyalty and commitment remain with our President-General, Chief Abaekwume. Whoever included my name in that purported committee without consultation should be ashamed”

It is noteworthy that some individuals, reportedly having usurped royal authority in the community in December 2025, allegedly established an electoral committee with Ugochukwu Aguguam as the head to oversee elections into the Obazu Town Union.

Meanwhile, the Obazu Town Union has called upon the state government to suspend the community’s traditional ruler, His Royal Highness Eze Francis Elendu Agunwa, due to alleged incapacitation.

The Town Union contends that certain individuals have exploited the royal father’s incapacitation to make decisions for the community, falsely attributing them to the monarch, despite his inability to authorize such decisions due to his health condition.
