.Clears Mbarie of Any Involvement in Fraud

Two pressure groups Orlu
Diaspora Elites Assembly (ODEA) and Orlu City Watchdog (OCW) have stated that only enemies of Imo State Governor Senator Hope Uzodimma will incite the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against the state chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON).

National Presidents of the ODEA and OCW, Chiefs Okolie Anderson and Gilbert Okoroike respectively made the submission in an interview with newsmen over the weekend.

They stated that those secretly inviting EFCC to quiz the past council chairmen including Pastor Chris Mbarie, former chairman of Orlu LGA knew that the secret invitation is a disrespect to the governor.

According to them, the secret invitation also disrespects the state legislature which carried out oversight function on the past council bosses.

They noted that Pastor Mbarie was bestowed with awards by journalists and other professionals because he never engaged in any fraudulent activities.

The groups stated that from the date which Pastor Mbarie assumed duty as the Orlu Local Government Council Chairman till the end of their tenure, auditors, councilors and the State House of Assembly did not link him to any case of irregularities, fraudulent activities, negligence to duty or incompetence.

Hear Dr. Anderson Okolie ” It is only the illiterates and the ignoramus that will hurry to EFCC without an insight into the local government account, the nature of accounts and their uses.

“Your petition to EFCC will fail if you don’t know the extent to which the objectives of auditing have been achieved in the local government council’s finance .”Therefore, until both the internal auditors, the external auditor, the Hon. Councilors, the State Government and the State House of Assembly come into the same page with the petitioners, their selfish efforts remain futile”.

Meanwhile, the state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Mrs Ruby Emele, has extended a message of commendation to Pastor. Mbarie for his stellar record of service to Orlu LGA and the state Government especially in the area of infrastructural development.

According to Hon. Emele, Mbarie’s record of service is worth emulating and commendable.

It is noteworthy that Pastor Chris Mbarie was elected as chairman Orlu Local Government Area in 2024.

Gov Uzodimma dissolved the 27 local government councils in 2026 resulting in the state electoral commission led by Charles Ejiogu fixing new council polls for September 26, 2026.

The commission could not hold the polls on the scheduled date. It has however rescheduled the election for November 7, of
