Nyameh Seeks End To Tiv Killings In Taraba

Professor Jerome Nyameh, a gubernatorial candidate in the 2023 general elections, has called upon the government and security agencies to enhance their efforts in preventing further assaults on Tiv communities in Taraba State.
He made this appeal during a press briefing in Jalingo on Tuesday, following an attack on Sunday that resulted in the deaths of numerous Tiv individuals.
Professor Nyameh implored the perpetrators to cease the senseless killings.
He expressed his dismay over the situation, noting that the reports he received from the affected areas were deeply distressing.
He stressed the necessity for these attacks to cease, not only in the local government areas of Takum and Wukari but also across other regions of the state.
Professor Nyameh called for an increase in intelligence gathering, surveillance, the deployment of additional personnel, and the provision of humanitarian assistance.
“Yesterday, I reached out to some individuals in the areas impacted by the attacks; the reports are unfavorable and deeply distressing. I could hear the cries of women and children. It is imperative that the attacks cease, not only within the communities in Chanchanji Ward of Takum and Wukari local government areas but also throughout the state.
“The government and security agencies must urgently intensify their efforts; the people are enduring significant hardship. Security agencies and the government should enhance their intelligence gathering, surveillance, deploy additional personnel, provide humanitarian assistance, and pursue the attackers. These individuals are not phantoms; they are human beings.
“Addressing security challenges extends beyond the loss of life and property; it encompasses individuals abandoning their farms due to fear of being killed, internally displaced persons (IDPs), kidnapping, and communal crises. A state grappling with insecurity cannot achieve economic growth, which impedes prosperity and deters investors from committing to invest. The populace should feel secure in their homes, farms, and places of worship,” he stated.
