Nursing Mother Recounts Torture By Tiger Base Officers

A nursing mother and housewife, Ogechi Eze, has shared the distressing ordeal she endured at the hands of six officers from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Imo State Police Command better known as Tiger Base about three months ago

She revealed that she was subjected to a merciless beating, resulting in severe bodily injuries, and one of the officers nearly strangled her to death at her residence in Okwu Uratta, Owerri North LGA of the state.

Ogechi recounted that she was abruptly awakened from sleep at about 5:30am by loud bangs and knocks on the gate of her residence.

She said she instructed one of her children to open the gate after being informed that the individuals at the gate were police officers.

Before the gate could be opened, some of the officers had scaled the fence from the backyard, presumably to prevent anyone from escaping the house.

Mrs. Eze, who spoke to broadcaster, Theodore Chinonso Uba, popularly known as Nonsonkwa explained that the officers demanded to see her husband, who was not at home at the time.

When the officers did not accept the explanation of her husband’s absence, they began to handle her roughly.

She recounted that one of the officers attempted to strangle her, prompting her to grab a plastic seat and smash it against his head.

This action further enraged the officers, leading to a severe beating of the nursing mother.

Mrs. Eze added that the officers also assaulted her children and her elderly mother, who was visiting for postnatal care.
