Man Arrested For Car Theft In Onitsha

Chimezie Eze, an indigene of Umuobom Community in the Ideato South Local Government Area of Imo State, has been apprehended for allegedly stealing a Toyota Camry in Nkpor, Onitsha, Anambra State.

The suspect, who identified himself as a driver, was captured after a friend of the vehicle’s owner recognized him driving the stolen car.

The friend pursued Eze and alerted bystanders when he attempted to escape after the vehicle ran out of fuel.

“The friend of car owner narrated; “After my friend informed me his vehicle had been stolen I started driving to go and meet with him. As I got to a spot, I saw his vehicle being driven by another person. I pursued the vehicle. I tried blocking the vehicle, he sped up and fortunately petrol got exhausted in the car and he alighted to flee. He was then apprehended,”

According to a video shared by Okeomanews, the suspect is also accused of previously stealing a vehicle belonging to a female police officer, which he later abandoned in Egbu, located in the Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State.

Upon the suspect’s arrest, a collection of assorted improvised car keys was discovered, which he utilized to unlock and steal vehicles.

Observers have urged law enforcement agencies in both Anambra and Imo States to collaborate in order to identify additional members of his criminal gang.
