Izunaso Clarifies Stance On Ohaji’s Inclusion In Proposed Anim State
Senator Osita Izunaso, representing Imo West (Orlu) Senatorial Zone, has provided clarification regarding his stance on the inclusion of the Ohaji Nation in the proposed Anim State.
He emphasized that he is not advocating for the inclusion of the Ohaji Nation in this new state but is instead committed to pursuing a process that would benefit the Ohaji Nation while remaining part of Imo State.
Senator Izunaso made these remarks during a meeting with a delegation of leaders from the Ohaji Nation over the weekend.
He expressed disappointment that, rather than receiving commendation for his efforts to safeguard the interests of the Ohaji Nation, some individuals have misinterpreted his actions and sought to damage his reputation through the media.
As a representative of the 12 local government areas within the Orlu Zone, Senator Izunaso asserted his capacity to comprehend the operations of the State Creation Committee.
He lamented that the damage to his reputation hampers his ability to engage in meaningful negotiations on behalf of the Ohaji Nation, even though they wish to remain within Imo State.
The Senator praised the delegation, led by Chief Goddy Esom Obodo, for their endeavors to unify and advance the interests of the Ohaji Nation.
He advised them to negotiate effectively, to ensure they are not marginalized within Imo State once it is established.
In response, Chief Goddy Esom Obodo expressed gratitude to Senator Izunaso for clarifying the situation, which could have led to misunderstandings between him and some members of the Ohaji community.
Chief Obodo commended the Senator’s efforts in the National Assembly to provide effective representation for his senatorial zone.
Chief Obodo emphasized the necessity of creating an additional state in the South East to achieve parity with other geopolitical zones in the country.
He asserted that the people of the Ohaji Nation unequivocally wish to remain in Imo State rather than joining Anim State.
He urged Senator Izunaso to leverage his influence to ensure the Ohaji Nation’s desire to remain in Imo State is realized.
The delegation included Chief Raymond Ogara, Hon. Kenneth Ekwueme, Hon. Damian Oparah, Hon. Davis Ogbuji, Barrister Ejike Esinkonye, Deacon Hilary Oguguo (KDKD), Hon. Uchenna Erobiri, Hon. Emma Omereji (former Development Area Coordinator, Ohaji West Development Area), Dr. Eugene Osimiri, among other leaders.
