FUTO Confirms Release Of Abducted Two Female Students
The management of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) has confirmed the release of the two female students of the university who were abducted on Sunday, September 6, 2016.
The university made the confirmation in a statement signed by Orakwe Ezugwu, its public relations officer.
It disclosed that the two freed students are at the moment receiving medical care and psychological support at the institution’s medical centre.
According to the statement, the university’s Vice Chancellor Prof Ikechukwu Dozie has visited and interacted with the two students.
The university expresses appreciation to the security agencies for their prompt intervention that saw to the release of the captives.
The management however assures students, members of staff and the university community that additional security measures had been put in place within and around the university to stave off future occurrence.
It urged members of the university community to remain calm and vigilant as well as report any suspicious activity.
The two girls, Spencer Jennifer Adaeze, a 300-level Optometry student and Lilian Chioma Igwebe, a 2025 Biology graduate of FUTO were abducted on Sunday evening while returning from a choir rehearsal by gunmen who also shot dead Mr. Ossy Onuoha, a manager with the Polaris Bank in Owerri.
Mr. Onuoha had conveyed his two sons to the campus to resume their studies when he was shot dead.
