Imo Electoral Commission Fixes LG Election For November 14
The Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC) has officially designated Saturday, November 14, 2026, as the new date for the postponed Local Government Council elections across the 27 Local Government Areas of Imo State.
This announcement was made in a press release signed by the Commission’s Chairman, Chief Charles Ejiogu, following extensive consultations with key stakeholders, including the Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) and registered political parties.
The decision was reached after a stakeholders’ meeting held on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at Rockview Hotels, Owerri, where participants collectively urged ISIEC to announce a new election date promptly.
The Commission clarified that the previously proposed date of November 7, 2026, was deemed unrealistic, necessitating the rescheduling of the elections to November 14.
These elections will result in the selection of 27 Local Government Council Chairmen and 305 Councillors throughout the state.
ISIEC has instructed the leadership of all registered political parties to visit its headquarters at No. 21 Orlu Road, Owerri, to collect the official election timetable and guidelines.
Furthermore, the Commission expressed its readiness to observe the primary elections of political parties for chairmanship and councillorship candidates in accordance with the relevant electoral laws.
Reaffirming its commitment to conducting peaceful, transparent, free, and credible elections, ISIEC assured political parties, candidates, and the electorate of a level playing field that would facilitate the emergence of democratically elected administrations at the grassroots level.
The Commission also appealed for the understanding and cooperation of all stakeholders to ensure the successful conduct of the council elections on November 14.
