Family Demands Justice For Alleged Slain Daughter

The grief-stricken family of 31-year-old Olunma Okeke, who was allegedly killed by her husband, has declared its intention to seek justice for the deceased by pursuing legal action once the autopsy report is available.

Mrs. Onyekachi Akataobi, the elder sister of the deceased, made this disclosure during an interview with The Punch correspondent, Chukwudi Akasike.

Mrs. Akataobi revealed that her sister had endured years of abuse at the hands of her husband, identified only as Okeke from Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State, prior to her untimely death.

She further disclosed the possible catalyst for the altercation between her sister and her husband, which ultimately led to her sister’s demise.

According to the 33-year-old Mrs. Akataobi, a mother of two, her sister, though a virtuous woman, was intolerant of injustice.

She revealed that a sum of N35,000, which belonged to the deceased and was transferred by a client to her husband’s account, was what triggered the quarrel leading to her sister’s death.

Mrs. Akataobi, who characterized her brother-in-law as untruthful, disclosed that he contacted her by telephone on the unfortunate day to inform her that his wife was experiencing vomiting and was unresponsive to any touch or call.

Subsequently, she revealed that he made another call, during which a female voice, identified as their neighbor, advised her to come promptly to retrieve her sister’s body.

Mrs. Akataobi further reported that her sister had recurrent disagreements with her husband prior to her passing, noting that family members would frequently intervene to resolve these disputes before the tragedy occurred.

Nevertheless, she dismissed the possibility of an out-of-court settlement of the matter, despite the fact that her late sister left behind two children.
