Quintessential Woman, Edith Nnaji Goes Home April 29

Our Sister, Our Light as she goes home with a smile.

It is difficult to find words big enough to hold the life of Ndaa Edith. She was a woman whose life was defined by humility, honesty, altruism, kindness, and empathy. These were not just virtues she admired — they were the way she lived, every single day.

To everyone she met, Ndaa Edith gave unwavering support and genuine kindness. She had a rare gift: the ability to make people feel seen, valued, and at peace. Her smile was contagious, and in the spirit of Saint Teresa of Calcutta, she never allowed anyone who came to her to leave unhappy.

Ndaa Edith was a woman of undiluted virtue. Colleagues, associates, schoolmates, age-group members, and all the organisations she served will attest to her integrity and excellence. Her organisational ability was remarkable. Between 1980 and 1983, she served as President of the Legion of Mary in the old Emekuku Parish — a parish that has since given birth to more than 10 others. As Diocesan President, she led the Legion of Mary contingent during Pope John Paul II’s visit to Onitsha in 1982. She also served faithfully as a chorister, offering her voice in worship.

We were privileged to have a giant in our midst. To us, her passing feels too soon. But we take comfort knowing that time and tide belong to God, and in Him, Ndaa Edith now rests.

Certainly, there is a time for everything under the sun. The summer can still come even after the flowers are cut, and our Creator said it was her time. We are consoled by the teaching of Saint Thomas Aquinas, who held that the human being would come back into existence with the resurrection of the body. This was corroborated by Saint Teresa of Calcutta when she wrote: “Dying is not the end, it is just the beginning; death is a continuation of life.” You have gone to continue your life until the resurrection day.

Ndaa Edith, thank you for the love, the lessons, and the legacy. You went home with a smile, and you left smiles in all our hearts. Dearest sister, you ran your race with grace. You loved deeply, served faithfully, and left footprints we will follow. We miss you already, but heaven has gained a true saint.

Adieu to a quintessential woman of unquantifiable peace and love.

A funeral Mass would be held in her honour, at St. Kyrian’s Catholic Church, Parish Ihitta Ogada, Owerri North , on April 29, 2026 at 10.00 hours. Interment follows immediately at Nnaji’s Compound, Ihitta Ogada. May her soul rest in perfect peace. Forever in our hearts.

Fondly Remembered by: Kings Chiwundu Nnaji (Brother).
