Tension grips Obile Community As Suspected Cultists Murder Oil Coy Staff, Five Indigenes
Residents of Obile Autonomous Community in Imo State are living in fear following the brutal killing of an Endroma Oil Servicing Company staff member and several indigenes allegedly by suspected cultists.
The President-General of Obile Town Union, Hon. Chigozie Kingsley Omuruka, attributed the escalating crisis to the appointment of Mr. Paschal Ndubuisi Obido as the new President-General of Obile Community by the LGA Chairman, Prince Marcel Amadioha.
Omuruka accused Obido and his group of being responsible for the murder of Denoute Gbaraka, a staff member of Endroma Oil Servicing Company, and another indigene, Chinedu Chukwu.
He also alleged that the group kidnapped a man known as Onwa from the Ogbonna family and looted a local provision shop.
According to Omuruka, the violence led to the death of five people since Obido’s appointment.
He called for an immediate investigation into the role of LGA Chairman Prince Amadioha and his Vice Chair, Mrs. Elizabeth Uluma Jude Opara, alleging that they colluded to install Obido despite his questionable character.
Omuruka stated that Obido’s appointment has emboldened his group, known as ‘Islam’, to attempt to forcefully take over leadership of Obile using violent tactics.
He urged Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, the Inspector General of Police, and other security agencies to intervene and restore peace in Obile.
Efforts to reach Obido, the LGA Chairman, and his Vice Chair for comments were unsuccessful as of press time, and the situation remains tense with residents fearing further violence.
