Gunmen Shoot Catholic Priest On Christmas Day in Imo

On Thursday, December 25th, gunmen shot a Catholic priest associated with St. Kelvin’s Parish in the Ogbaku Community, located in the Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State.

According to sources, the Catholic cleric, who serves as the Assistant Priest at the parish, sustained an injury to his right arm during the incident.

The source stated, “The shooting occurred in the morning as the priest was approaching the church gate. No one witnessed the shooter, but fortunately, the priest survived the attack.”

The source further revealed that the priest was promptly taken to a nearby hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment and showing signs of recovery.

The Catholic Archbishop of Owerri, Most Rev. Lucius Ugorji, confirmed the occurrence of the incident and noted that the identities of the gunmen have not yet been determined.

Additionally, it is important to mention that a suicide bombing was reported at a mosque in Maiduguri, Borno State, also on Christmas Day.
