Lawmaker Clarifies Swift Passage Of Imo’s 2026 Budget
Chisom Ojukwu, a member of the Imo State House of Assembly, has provided clarification regarding the swift passage of the 2026 budget proposal by the legislature, which occurred approximately 24 hours following its presentation by the state governor, Hope Uzodimma.
Ojukwu, who represents the Nkwerre Constituency, emphasized that the budget exemplifies the “courage and leadership qualities of the governor.”
Governor Uzodimma submitted the state’s N1.45 trillion budget on Monday, and on Tuesday, the House granted it accelerated consideration and subsequently enacted it into law.
Furthermore, the Majority Leader of the House, Kanayo Onyemaechi, characterized the budget as a “people-oriented budget.”
He expressed that the budget is anticipated to facilitate further development projects, which are expected to propel the state to greater heights.
After additional contributions and a unanimous vote in favor of its passage, the Speaker, Chike Olemgbe, announced the budget’s approval.
Mr. Olemgbe instructed the Clerk of the Assembly, Chinelo Emeghara, to prepare a clean copy of the bill for submission to the governor for his assent.
The budget provisions include an allocation of N238.499 billion for recurrent expenditures, along with a projected capital expenditure of approximately N1.22 trillion.
