FUTO Graduates 3,808 At 37th Convocation Ceremony

Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) is set to graduate a total of 3,808 students at its 37th convocation ceremony scheduled for Friday, December 5, and Saturday, December 6, 2025.

Among the graduates, 3,366 will receive first degrees, while 542 will be awarded higher degrees and postgraduate diplomas.

This announcement was made by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Nnenna Oti, during a pre-convocation press briefing held on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at the university’s Council Chambers.

Professor Oti elaborated that among the 3,366 first-degree recipients, 76 achieved first-class honors, while others attained second-class upper, second-class lower, and third-class honors.

Additionally, she revealed that of those receiving higher degrees, 132 earned Ph.D. degrees, 291 will receive Master’s degrees, and 119 are to be awarded postgraduate diplomas.

Furthermore, Professor Oti announced that the university will confer honorary doctorates upon three distinguished Nigerians: the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume (D. Litt), Aliko Dangote (D. MT), and Mrs. Ngozi Ekeoma (D.MT).

She also highlighted her accomplishments since becoming Vice Chancellor, which include the expansion of academic programs from 45 to 58, all of which have received full accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC).

She stated that the university’s professional programs have been accredited by their respective supervisory bodies under her leadership.

Furthermore, she mentioned that two of the university’s programs, namely MSc Corrosion Technology and MSc Future Energies, have achieved international accreditation.

Additional events planned for the week-long convocation ceremony include an ecumenical service on Wednesday, December 3, followed by the Convocation Lecture on Thursday, December 4.

The Convocation Lecture, entitled “Beyond Oil: Exploring Alternative Revenue Potentials for Economic Growth and Sustainable Development in Nigeria,” will be delivered by the Governor of Abia State, Alex Chioma Otti, OFR.
