Police Begin Enforcement of Ban On Use of Vehicles With Tinted Windscreens

The Imo State Police Command says it will commence the enforcement of the ban on the unauthorized use of vehicles fitted with tinted windscreens from October 4, 2025.

The spokesman for the command DSP Henry Okoye disclosed this in a statement dated 26 September 2025.

Okoye urged vehicle owners whose vehicles are factory-fitted with tinted or lightly shaded windscreens to visit the police portal at https//possap.gov.ng/ to apply for the mandatory permit before the expiration of the grace period on 3 October 2025.

The command restated that the ban on the use of tinted windscreens by commercial buses particularly ‘Bus Imo’ remains in force.

According to Okoye, this measure taken in the interest of the public became necessary as such vehicles have been frequently linked to violent crimes such as kidnapping, armed robbery and ‘one chance’ incidents in the state.

He disclosed that vehicles of violators will be impounded and dealt with in accordance with with the law.

The spokesman enjoined vehicle owners and drivers to cooperate with the police during the enforcement exercise.

The statement reads in part; “The Imo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that full enforcement of the ban on the unauthorised use of vehicles with tinted windscreens will commence from Friday, 4th October, 2025.

“Vehicle owners whose vehicles are factory-fitted with tinted or lightly shaded windscreens are strongly advised to visit the approved Police portal at https://possap.gov.ng/ to apply for the mandatory permit before the expiration of the grace period on 3rd October, 2025.

“For the avoidance of doubt, vehicles of violators will be impounded and dealt with in accordance with the law.

“The Command urges all citizens to cooperate with law enforcement officers during this exercise. It is important to note that permits will only be issued for vehicles with factory-fitted windscreens or those with light shading supported by a medical report/recommendation from an approved government hospital, in strict compliance with national security directives.

“The Command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all Imolites and residents of the State.”
