Explosion Rocks Imo Community, Kills One
An explosion on 21 September 2025 rocked the Obinwanne Community in Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State, killing one person.
National Newsbreak gathered the lone victim of the blast Mr. Chinworeke Mmadu bore the explosive at the time it detonated inflicting injuries on him.
Mmadu, who hailed from Ebonyi State later died from the injuries, a source said.
Our source further informed that two passersby who sustained injuries from the blast were rushed to a nearby hospital where they are said to be in stable conditions.
When contacted, the police authorities in the state confirmed the blast.
The spokesman for the police command, DSP Henry Okoye disclosed that police personnel from the Njaba Division rushed to the scene upon receipt of the news of the unfortunate incident.
According to him, the prompt response of the police ensured that the situation was brought under control and the area secured.
Okoye added that the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) DCP Hamzat Abdulkadir had also visited the scene with operatives of Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit
“The area was carefully swept and has been declared safe for public use”, he said.
According to Okoye, investigation is ongoing to unravel the motive behind Mmadu bearing the explosive device.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police CP Aboki Danjuma has urged members of the public to stay calm, remain security conscious and provide timely information to aid security efforts.
He also prayed for the speedy recovery of the two injured passersby.
